This month, I’m going to change things up a bit. A lot of the stuff I had set aside for myself is not a physical document. Frankly, I’m a little sick of screens, and would like to spend some time with actual books.
I was going to read Beyond the World, but that’s going to be put on hold. Instead, I’m going to read some smaller Pathfinder supplements I’ve been meaning to get around to, and just have left languishing on my shelf. I’m aiming for about 200 pages of content to cover the equivalent of reading a more substantive book.
I’m definitely going to read Beyond the World, but really, it’s the screen. It’s too pervasive a feature in my life at the moment, and that needs to change. In general, this has caused me to reflect a bit on the preponderance of digital technology in gaming. Is it necessary? Really? I don’t know. I’m torn. I’ll take this up in another post though.
The key issue is that, because of the amount of screen time I have in my daily life, I need a break. Besides, I like Pathfinder. People come down on it, but isn’t a bad game. For a while I had wanted to do a one shot with a humans versus orcs campaign. Kind of like what I thought the world of MiddleEarth would be like post-Sauron. Maybe humans stumbled on an orc enclave in the wastelands of Mordor, and a series of skirmishes ensue as both sides seek to fortify against the other.
I have Pathfinder material for running this, so maybe I’ll start with that. It might even prove to be inspirational!
